Nestled on the shore of Lake Sammamish, this custom residence sits quietly in the landscape and opens to the water.
Designed by Kevin Kudo-King of Olson Kundig and built by E&H Construction, the house is defined by its exterior materials: clear cedar siding and imported stone from Vietnam. The cedar brings the warmth of the Northwest; the stone gives the elevations weight and texture. Together they keep the house grounded on the lake rather than competing with it.
That restraint is central to Kudo-King’s work. He designs buildings as a small part of a larger landscape—spaces meant to make you present to light, sound, and the site itself. As he puts it, architecture is not about the architect; it is about recognizing when something is already beautiful and being a good steward of that place. On Lake Sammamish, the cedar and stone do that job: they let the lake, the light, and the shoreline remain the main event.
